Relationships

Relationships are hugely important in our lives. The bonds we form with others are vital to our mental and emotional wellbeing, so when problems develop it can leave us feeling distressed.

If your relationship has some of the early warning signs or a breakdown, it’s time to seek advice. The sooner you act on issues, the easier they will be to resolve. Some relationships involve violence, controlling behaviour and abuse. If you suffer any form of violence, seek help immediately.

Who can help me in the NT?

If you are unsure about who to talk to or who can help, a good place to start is your local GP. If you live in a small town or community, your local health clinic or community service are the best places to go, as they can refer you to specialist support.

  • Community based support services

Community based services support individuals and carers with emerging or present health and social issues. They can also help with issues of addiction, relationships, grief, domestic violence; and housing or financial hardship.

  • General Practitioner (GP) or doctor

If you are worried about a personal relationship, you can speak with a General Practitioner (GP)  for help and advice.

A GP can help guide you to appropriate support depending on your needs and  may refer you to a specialist counsellor.

  • Remote health service

If you live in a community without access to a GP clinic, you'll most likely have a health service in or near your community. This local service can support your health needs and may have Aboriginal health workers and nurses who can help you find the right support.
